Description
Prerequisites
This quest begins on the second floor of The Citadel which requires the Citadel Key I to access. In addition, players will need a Pickaxe from Ebonglade Part 1 to complete the first part of the quest.
Mechanics
This section contains solutions to puzzles encountered in The Deep. Players are encouraged to try to solve them on their own before referring to this section. Lore spoilers will be avoided but some minor spoilers may be unavoidable.
This quest begins by speaking to Trifonas on the second floor of The Citadel who will give the player a Wet Compass which guides them to the Extractors area of The Deep.
The Extractors
Note: The Extractors section of the quest only needs to be completed once, as on future attempts at the quest players can use the Submarine to enter The Deep.
Required Extractors
- Extractor 10 has an entrance blocked by Gilded Blackstone so needs a pickaxe from Ebonglade to enter. Inside is a Forge which allows the player to craft a Multiwrench from a Multiwrench Ingot and Multiwrench Handle.
- Extractor 11 involves parkouring around the outside of the extractor. Once the top is reached, players can jump inside to get the Multiwrench Ingot.
- Extractor 8 provides a Broken Water Grapple that is used to parkour to the top of the extractor. Upon reaching the top the player is granted a Multiwrench Handle. The Grapple breaks if taken outside of the extractor.
- Once a Multiwrench has been obtained, the player can enter the pipe near Extractor 1 to progress to the next section. If the optional Gills have not been obtained, air can be restored by sneaking on the magma blocks.
Optional Challenges
- Extractor 2 has an entrance blocked by Epaxial so needs a Multiwrench to enter. Inside is a parkour course. Upon reaching the top the player is rewarded with the Gills of the Deep.
- Extractor 4 has an entrance blocked by Epaxial so needs a Multiwrench to enter. Inside is a parkour course that involves slime bouncers. Upon reaching the top the player is rewarded with the Flippers of the Deep.
- Extractor 6 has an entrance blocked by Epaxial so needs a Multiwrench to enter. Inside is a parkour course that involves breaking more Epaxial to ascend. Upon reaching the top the player is rewarded with an OmniTool, which is an upgrade for the Multiwrench.
Other Extractors
- Extractor 1 contains the lorebook Maintenance Log.
- Extractor 3 contains a bed, a shulker loader, an ender chest, and a chest containing Mushroom Stew. It also contains the lorebook The Multiwrench.
- Extractor 5 contains a bed, an ender chest, and a chest containing Mushroom Stew. It also contains the lorebook The Extractors Pt 1.
- Extractor 7 contains a bed, an ender chest, and a chest containing Mushroom Stew. It also contains the lorebook Equipment of The Deep.
- Extractor 9 contains a bed, an ender chest, and a chest containing Mushroom Stew. It also contains the lorebook The Extractors Pt 2.
Maintenance Tunnel
Once the player has swam through the pipe, they emerge into The Cave. To the south is a door to the maintenance tunnel, however upon approaching it the fuse blows and the door will not open. At the north end of the cave is a bed, a skeleton skull, the lorebook The Cave, and a chest containing some golden carrots and a piece of Epaxial which can be used to repair the fuse and open the door. Walking through the Maintenance Tunnel the player will find the lorebooks The Machine, The Machine Lives and The Machine's Plan. They can then take an elevator which leads to the lorebook Sealed Away and a second elevator. This allows entrance to the main city area.
The Deep
The first room past the tunnel contains three NPCs, a bed, a shulker loader and an ender chest. There are also two barrels which often contain Golden Carrots.
Nikolaus needs three items in order to create a Key to AL.
Note: After completing this quest several times, players can buy an Eternal Key to AL for 3 Fried Circuits from Trifonas at the Citadel which will allow them to skip the key crafting section of this quest and proceed directly to the boss fight.
Reactor Core
Players should speak to Thiseas who will open the door to The Reactor. A spare Multiwrench can be obtained from the barrel if the Player does not have their with them. The Gills of the Deep and Flippers of the Deep are useful, but not required. The lorebook The Reactor can be found through the door.
Once ready, players need to swim to the other side of The Reactor, being sure not to get hit by the circulating pulse. The magma blocks can be used to restore air. Once at the other side, all of the Epaxial needs to be broken in order to award the player with the Reactor Core.
Once they have returned to the main room, players can speak to Lazaros to obtain a Levitation Potion which can be used to rise to the upper part of the city and obtain the other two items.
Foo Foo Valve
Players head north from the main city platform into the Boiler Room. A save point is provided, and all gear should be stored away. The save point room also contains the lore book The Boiler Room.
Players need to make their way through a parkour course over lava. They should be aware as some of the oxidised copper platforms will periodically retract into the wall, and certain black concrete blocks will pop out of the wall pushing players off their platform. A save point is provided at the end of the first room, and then players crawl through a small tunnel into the next room.
The main boiler room contains more parkour, this time with certain platforms retracting into the lava floor. Upon reaching the boiler itself, the Foo Foo Valve can be broken out of an item frame. The player is returned to the Boiler Room entrance.
Chronic Oscillator
Players head west from the main city platform into the Gardens, and find the lorebook The Gardens. They can then use the pressure plate next to the lectern to receive a Broken Water Grapple. Players must use this Riptide Trident to make their way to the top of The Gardens, however only a limited number of jumps are allowed before the grapple breaks. Once they reach the top they can ascend onto the roof where The Radio Tower is located. The Chronic Oscillator can be broken out of an item frame, which also returns the player to the Gardens entrance.
AL
With all three items in hand, the player should return to Nikolaos who will craft them into a Key to AL. They can then head south from the main city platform to enter AL's Chamber, which will consume the key. A check point is available past the first door, and players should store all items away. Players can then descent the elevator and read the dialogue as they progress to the boss room.
Upon starting the fight, players are given a Pristine Water Grapple, a Pristine Water Lance, 4 Golden Carrots and a Golden Apple. The fight begins with a lengthy dialogue sequence which can be skipped by throwing the Lance in AL's face.
Light Path
Phase 1
The arena is split into four quarters. One quarter will turn red, and players must move off that area before it turns to lava a few seconds later. This will repeat twice until only quarter of the arena is left. At this point four Resurrected Deep will spawn on the remaining platform, and the player must defeat them using the Water Lance. This whole sequence will repeat for a total of three times.
After the third set of Resurrected Deep are defeated, the vents on the left side of the arena open. Players must parkour up to the top and hit the button before AL recharges. If the succeed, they will progress to phase 2. If AL recharges before the button is pressed, phase 1 will begin again.
Phase 2
The arena floor turns completely to water, and AL starts to summon vapour walls. These walls of particles move from one wall of the arena to the opposite wall, and will kill the player if they come into contact with it. Players must use the Water Grapple to jump over them.
There is a 25% chance that a Resurrected Deep will spawn during this phase.
After an amount of time, the vents on the right side of the arena will open. Players can either parkour to the top, or use the Water Grapple to get there quickly, and must hit the button before AL recharges. If the succeed, they will progress to phase 3. If AL recharges before the button is pressed, phase 2 will begin again.
Phase 3
Phase 3 is a combination of the first two phases. An area around the outside of the arena all turns to lava, giving a smaller space to maneouver in. Small pools of water will appear in each corner.
Several Resurrected Deep will spawn during this fight and players can defeat them using the Water Lance. AL will also continue to summon vapour walls, and players must use the Water Grapple to hop between the small pools in the corners. At a certain point one quarter of the arena will turn red, and players must evacuate it before it turns to lava. After some more Resurrected Deep and vapour walls, another quarter will turn to lava in the same fashion. Shortly afterwards, the vents above the entrance to the arena will open and players must use the Water Grapple to get up there and push the button. This completes the quest, and after a short cutscene the player is teleported out and rewarded.
