Description
Prerequisites
This quest requires Bloodweave Armor and a Holy Sickle which are both obtained from Vilethorn.
Mechanics
This section contains solutions to puzzles encountered in Ebonglade. Players are encouraged to try to solve them on their own before referring to this section. Lore spoilers will be avoided but some minor spoilers may be unavoidable.
Ebonglade
Players usually start by obtaining the Wearier Compass from Vasso at The Citadel, which guides them back to Ebonglade. This step is optional.
A small cave off to the right side of the main Ebonglade entrance contains a secret entrance. This will only open while the player is wearing Bloodweave Armor, and behind it is a layer of Shroomlight which require a Holy Sickle to break. This secret entrance takes them directly to the tomb room from Ebonglade Part 1.
It is possible for a player to use this entrance to bypass the first segment of Ebonglade Part 1 and skip directly to the tomb room, however using this option will sacrifice their Bloodweave Armor.
Behind the tomb is some Shroomlight in the floor. This can be broken with the Holy Sickle and the player drops down. They can then participate in The Dark Descent minigame.
The Dark Gate
Players arrive at The Dark Gate and immediately upon landing they will see the lorebook The Dark Gate 1. The aim of this section is to brew a Potion of the Ore Seeker using ingredients found around the area:
- Immediately to the left as they enter the outdoor area is a patch of Belias Root (looks like nether wart) which can be harvested with the Holy Sickle.
- Just behind that is a small hut containing gravel. In that area is the lorebook The Dark Gate 2 and a special Flint and Steel.
- On top of some stone near that hut are several Lamentis Flowers (look like wither roses) which can be harvested with the Holy Sickle.
- At the top of the left hand tower is the lorebook The Dark Gate 3.
- The right hand cell contain a Dead Dwarf. By pushing the button above the cauldron, a way opens up into a small tunnel below. At the end of that tunnel is a chest containing a Bow and 14 Mining Arrows.
- Returning to the Dead Dwarf the mining arrow can be used to remove some Dwarven Flesh.
- Players can enter the empty cell at the top of the left hand tower to find a Bucket. This can be taken to the fountain in the outdoor area where there is a fountain with some dripping taps. These taps can be used to fill the empty Bucket and obtain a Water Bucket. This item is optional.
- At the top of the right hand tower is a room blocked by Shroomlight which can be removed using the Holy Sickle. Inside is a brewing cauldron and some signs on the wall highlight the ingredients necessary. A Glass Bottle can be found amongst the bookshelves.
With all the ingredients in place, the player can now do their brewing. First the Soul Campfire underneath the Cauldron must be lit using the Flint and Steel, and the Cauldron must be filled with water. This can be done either using the Water Bucket, or by filling the Glass Bottle from the floor and using that three times. The Belias Root, Lamentis Flower, and Dwarven Flesh can then be thrown in. They must be added in the correct order. The Glass Bottle can then be used on the Cauldron to obtain the Potion of the Ore Seeker.
Players can then return to the main gate and drink the potion. This will highlight part of the chain holding up the two large blocks, which can be broken using the Mining Arrows. This causes the large blocks to fall, opening the door and a portal to The Ephemeral Tunnel.
The Ephemeral Tunnel
Once through the portal, players arrive at The Gate. The room has a number of pillars on either side of the room, some of which have Shroomlight on. Players should break whichever Shroomlight they can reach, which will break a corrisponding piece of nether wart. Lava will start to flow, and players can swim up this to reach the next Shroomlight. As long as the player is wearing full Bloodweave Armor, they will not take any damage from the lava.
Once through the gate, players reach a save point and should put their Bloodweave Armor away. The Holy Sickle will be removed from the players inventory at this point, and replaced with the Cursed Holy Sickle which is faster. Players now need to make their way along the tunnel. Honey and Slime blocks will be advancing towards the player trying to push them off, and players will need to avoid these. This will involve ducking under some sections, and breaking Shroomlight to get through others.
During the next section players are given a Bow, 8 Mining Arrows and a Potion of the Ore Seeker. They should drink the potion and then shoot the blocks highlighted in the ceiling. This will reveal a pathway which can be stood on, but the pathway will only be visible for a few seconds. Players need to reveal and move to the next section before the one they are standing on disappears.
Once through this, players can exit the tunnel and enter the Otherside dimension.
Otherside
The entry hall to the boss contains a shulker loader and ender chest, which the player should use to store all their belongings as their inventory will be cleared on entering the boss room. Nutmeg is also located in the entry hall, and a lectern can be read to view a cutscene.
The boss fight is a tower defence game where the player must attempt to defend The Orb. There will be 35 waves of enemies advancing along two tracks, and players can earn Otherside Shards to buy towers to place in 41 locations along the track to help defend.
Towers
These towers are:
- Ranger Towers fire projectiles at nearby enemies
- Lookout Towers weaken nearby enemies and buff nearby players
- Freeze Towers slow down nearby enemies
- Bomb Towers do nothing until hit by a Mining Arrow, at which point they explode and cause major damage to nearby enemies. They also cause Mines to appear, based on nearby towers, which can be laid on the track.
- Gold Towers generate extra shards after each wave.
Each Tower can be upgraded to Gold Tier and then Diamond Tier which increases their range and powers. Additionally The Orb itself can be upgraded twice, and numerous pieces of armor and weaponry are also available. After each wave the player should take their rewards from the Loot Chest, as well as the barrels found on any Gold Towers. Any unwanted items can be placed into the Junk Chest, which once at a certain level of fullness will provide extra rewards for the player.
Crystal Infestations
On certain waves, Crystal Infestations (also described as ??? Towers) appear which deactivate nearby towers and buff nearby enemies. Players can buy Crystal Eradicators to remove these infestations, and will get shards back in return. Infestations spawn as follows:
- One Tier 1 Infestation spawns on waves 3, 5, 7 and 8
- Two Tier 1 Infestations spawn on waves 12, 13, 15, 17 and 20
- Three Tier 2 Infestations spawn on waves 22 to 30
- Five Tier 3 Infestations spawn on waves 31 to 34
If Crystal Infestations are not dealt with on the wave in which they spawn, they will evolve into the next tier on the following wave.
Enemies
As the waves progress, new types of enemies start to spawn as follows:
- Otherside Wretch, which is a Zombie, spawns from wave 1
- Otherside Wretchling, which is a Baby Zombie, spawns from wave 3
- Otherside Shambler, which is a Skeleton, spawns from wave 6
- Otherside Horror, which is a Husk, spawns from wave 11
- Otherside Horrorling, which is a Baby Husk, spawns from wave 12
- Otherside Disciple, which is a Wither Skeleton, spawns from wave 17
- Otherside Warlock, which is an Evoker, spawns from wave 21
- Otherside Defiled, which is a Piglin Brute, spawns from wave 25
- Otherside Demon, which is a Ravager, spawns from wave 29
Additionally, Slime can sometimes spawn around the arena even between waves.
As the enemies are created using spawn eggs they are similar to natural spawns in that they can spawn with random armor or weapons. This is also affected by local difficulty, which means that over time they may begin spawning with more heavily enchanted items, or with iron or diamond armor and weapons.
Waves 5, 16 and 31 are Horde Waves which contain huge numbers of enemies all spawning in a short amount of time.
Xaleem
On five of the waves Xaleem will spawn. She will become more powerful each time, gaining a new randomly selected power. Her incarnations are:
- Xaleem Larva, a Baby Zombie with 800 health, on wave 10
- Xaleem Imperfect, a Skeleton with 1000 health, on wave 20
- Xaleem Semi-Perfect, a Zombie with 1500 health, on wave 28
- Xaleem Perfect, a Vindicator with 2000 health, on wave 33
- Xaleem Super-Perfect, an Illusioner with 3000 health, on wave 35
